Good Movies To Watch While Drinking
I can’t say I’ve watched a ton of shows but I’ve found a few that were not only worth watching but worth telling. These are movies and series you can sip wine with: some maybe with some scotch but each has its own unique flavor.
As we ease into trying to calm our minds with what is happening with the world, these are the shows I would recommend to be on your shortlist if you haven’t already seen them. They’re really great for escaping on the couch, pouring yourself a glass, and putting yourself on pause from all the news.
I was going to list what to pair with each show but I’m not a lush. I mean, I wish I would have thought about that while watching them but remembering each great show, a certain cocktail comes to mind that fits just perfectly. If you’re in the mood for a nice drink and a movie, read on.
Historical: PBS
Churchill’s Secret
Michael Gambon does an incredible job playing Winston Churchill. The story holds true to Churchill's true character too by showing his strength right down to how he used to use his wit. What’s incredible about Churchill and probably what I love the most about him was his knowledge of the arts which was why he was able to lead so effectively. His love for the arts such as painting and prose is how he was able to process his next actions. It might have been what enabled him to see things clearly in his darkest moments.
Fun and Raunchy: Amazon
Z
I still have yet to finish this series but the story of F. Scott Fitzgerald is quite fascinating. Who knew they used to party that much but no wonder when you start to realize how difficult it was to be a woman writer in the roaring twenties. This is a great series to sip champagne in a coupe.
Sex In The City Fun: Netflix
Emily in Paris
How fun to adore her clothes, the city and her spunk! This is worth the indulge with a little port and chocolate. Oh! To be young again… The only part I hated about this was when I wondered if she was going to take that side trip or not. Should she? Would I take it? I mean, why not? And then, it ended. A big recommendation for young women to understand their possibilities.
Cranial: Netflix
Queen’s Gambit
I only got through this series because of so many good reviews and recommendations from family and friends. Just when I started to second guess finishing, I was told the ending made the story so I endured. And the ending certainly did payout! The main character Beth Harmon says in one part that chess is classy and elegant and this movie is just that. A great movie to watch with some good scotch.
Darn Good Drama: Netflix
Virgin River
My absolute favorite on this list is Virgin River. Although filmed in Canada, the story is about a Northern California town. I love everything about this series; the drama, the characters and the thrill. It’s probably the closest show I’ve watched that I’d compare to a really good soap opera that you can’t believe you’re hooked to. This kind of series comes around only once in a while - thank God! With only 2 seasons but around 10 episodes in each season, I can’t imagine if the pandemic didn’t end their filming for now. This would be the “stop-all-plans-because-we-have-Virgin-River-on tonight.”
Educational: Netflix
Down To Earth with Zac Efron
Ok so he’s cute but the content and what he discovers are just fascinating. He shows a different perspective on how different cities around the world deal with sustainability and it’s magnetic. The towns, the culture, and the great possibilities of how countries can function if sustainability was a focus is astounding as well as entertaining.
Romantic Comedy in Europe: Netflix
Under the Eiffel Tower
This is the best wine movie to sip your favorite grape juice. This movie has good comedy, scenery, adulting, wine, food, and a good story. Grab a good bottle of wine and some appetizers to enjoy this movie filled with great dinner scenes and stimulating conversation that we’re so deprived of these days. Are you craving a little adult time?
There you have it. Good stories that are good with a little wine and food or just great to binge on. What have been some of your favorites during this time at home?
