One of the great things we’ve been enjoying doing at home with the Safer At Home restrictions is our new TV. We’ve been able to watch all the movies and videos straight from the apps that our TV comes with, no longer needing to access them from Apple TV.
And our favorite app, believe it or not, is YouTube.
Short videos are informative, short, funny, and real. We can watch something that is 10 seconds long to 30 minutes to 1 hour. It’s Reality TV on steroids. We’ve been able to learn about every wine region, up and coming TV personalities that don’t have to compete with broadcast TV, Richard’s golf videos, travel shows, and TED Talks. If they’re making videos on YouTube, we’re watching them.
Here are some of my favorite videos on YouTube.
V is for Vino
If you want to learn about wine, why not learn from a sommelier? Follow Vince as his videos are informative and engaging – think of him like a cool nerd who really grows on you. I like the questions he asks when visiting wineries in different regions. Right now his videos are mainly focused on how to make cocktails as we’re all quarantined. If you want to know how to make popular, simple cocktails, his videos are like a live recipe book for cocktails.
Pati’s Mexican Table
This is a new show (to us anyway), that was introduced by my husband and we’re in the process of watching every video on Pati Jinich; from her talks, interviews, her cooking and mainly, her show. She travels throughout Mexico to savor the foods and learn from passionate cooks just like her and then reels it in her kitchen by preparing these dishes. I love her passion, cute personality and introduction of amazing ingredients from such an amazing and intoxicating place we love so much. She’s already got me hooked on chilis.
Travel Videos
We like to type in a location in the search bar on YouTube and all kinds of videos pop up from all kinds of people’s different perspectives on these locations. It’s like fishing through a discount store to find that one great find. (I did mention we liked to binge watch, right?) We have found videos like Whitney Adams who I find very funny, Dream of Italy with Kathy McCabe, (although she’s been picked up by PBS), and even Robert Parker. You do know who Robert Parker is, right?
Ted Talks
Need I say more? These are always great to watch on topics we love. From views on wine, to behavior, to food and travel. It’s a great way to learn about new authors or speakers. We’ve seen a few on drinking wine that are very good to watch if you’re working on brushing up your skills. Here’s one on wine myths.
And then there’s Rick…
We like Rick Steve’s - his shows are legendary and informative and are a quick binge while our food is cooking. I’m all about anything that can inspire us to break out with a bottle of wine. I think we’ve seen just about every show he has made on his tour guide shows.
Please share what you’ve been watching. I’d like to think we have more great finds out there.
